I'm new to this journal so I'll just say hi and give a lil background. I'm 24 Canadian and I am a mild monarchist. I study my country in university so I do a fair bit of talking about the royal family.

Hi to all!

Hello everyone! My name is Ben, I live in the USA and I just joined. I have always been a fan of the Royal Family and have loved England ever since I visited the UK when I was 9 years old.

Question: If you were to visit Windsor Castle, is it still possible to view the tomb of the Queen Mother?

Hey my name is Sinead and I was just wondering if anyone can suggest some sites/groups that will allow me to use some pictures on my website. I'm starting a site for European royals, history and supporting them(much like this group :) but it seems there's been a lot of copyright trouble lately. If you have suggestions I'd be so thankful because I've tried everywhere. Or you can email me at euroyalboys@yahoo.com Thanks all:)

Subject:Camilla fans?

Hello all!
I'm Kaz and I'm from the UK and have just joined.

Doesn't anybody here support Camilla?
I mean I loved Princess Diana, she was a wonderful woman who did so much good charity work and so on... but Charles and her weren't a good match, sometimes things just don't work out, which was why Henry VIII created the Church of England in the first place! That doesn't mean I can't like Camilla too, her and Charles have been through the ringer! Surely they deserve some happiness now?
And its the work of Charles life to be king, what else has he done if not to be king? Personally, I do not think that should be taken away from him.

Looking forward to hearing your opinions!

So now that the Prince of Wales is marrying Camilla Parker Bowles and she's going to be the Princess Consort, does that set a precedent for future Kings of Great Britain? Will William's wife be the Princess Consort too since Queen Victoria's husband was the Prince Consort?

Will there ever be another Queen of Great Britain again?

I just got 2 awesome books!

They're hard copy souvenir books that are given out the schoolchildren for special occasions involving the royal family.

One is for Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip's wedding in 1947 and the other is for George VI and Queen Elizabeth (the Queen Mother)'s coronation in 1937. They're awesome just to have. We found them for $1 a piece. So the deal is just as sweet as finding the books!

Hello, my name is Carol. I'm somewhat new, having only joined a few weeks ago. *waves*

I wish I could participate in the discussion about last names/history, but I'm afraid my knowledge of the royal family is limited to the escapades of Queen Elizabeth 2's children and grandchildren (I know, how shallow!). That said, I was wondering if anyone caught the latest edition of 'People' magazine with William and Harry on the cover, and what you might have thought of the article. Nothing really informative, it seemed, was revealed (and the main focus was Harry's recent incident with the photographer).

Magazine/tabloid stories aside, I was wondering if anyone had any fond memories/observations/influences of the royals in their family. I'm in my twenties but as a young Canadian, I grew up with so many stories of my (non-British) family watching Elizabeth (the attention the coronation garnered before and afterwards, the children), how she 'set the style' for her time much as Diana had later on. And in a time when so much attention is placed on the younger generation, it's so interesting to realize the Queen's influence/popularity on societal ways at one point, to a much lesser degree now. I'm very grateful for these stories, as they help me to remember how fortunate we are to have this history play such a prominent role in our time. :)

I am just curious what everyone titles the houses of the English monarchy as. These are what I call them but some houses lack a certain surname flare.

House of Wessex (e.g. Edward Wessex the Confessor)
House of Denmark (e.g. Canute Denmark the Great)
House of Norman (e.g. William Norman the Conqueror)
House of Blois (e.g. Steven Blois)
House of Plantagenet (e.g. Edward Plantagenet the Longshanks)
House of Lancaster (e.g. Henry Plantagenet V)
House of York (e.g. Richard Plantagenet III)
House of Tudor (e.g. Henry Tudor VIII)
House of Dorset (e.g. Lady Jane Grey)
House of Stuart (e.g. Charles Stuart I)
House of Hanover (e.g. George Hanover III)
House of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha (e.g. Edward Saxe-Coburg-Gotha VII)
House of Windsor (e.g. HRH Elizabeth Windsor II)
House of Mountbatten-Windsor (e.g. Prince Charles Mountbatten-Windsor of Wales)

These are the houses, what would you use as their surnames?

Subject:Discussion Attempt #1

What do you think about George V changing the name of his house from the House of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha to the House of Windsor in 1917?

Do you feel this was justified given the times? Do you think Elizabeth II and her descendants should hold so steadfast to this name?

Mountbatten is a last name changed in the same 1917 period as well. Should Prince Philip be upset that his name of Mountbatten should be ignored by the Earl and Countess of Wessex who chose for Lady Louise (who's name is legally Lady Louise Mountbatten-Windsor) to be known as Lady Louise Windsor? Remember to consider that Prince Philip's FATHER'S last name was NOT Mountbatten and more along the lines of Oldenburg (as he is from the Danish line of the Greek Royal Family).

Please jump in! Let's get the party started....quickly!

I'm new, I know, but I'm passionate about all things royal. Maybe we should post a question and get discussions going? I know I really like Queen Victoria and her immediate decendents. However, some of us may especially like the Plantangenets. But, all discussion is fun!

Let me know what you think?

Subject:The Family of Fame

Hello everyone. I am Derek Whaley, most likely a 34th generation descendent of John of Gaunt (like half the WASPs out there). I love the genealogy of the royal family and have memorized the entire family from William the Conqueror to the current family. I also know many of the older rulers before William I as well as most all the kings of France since Pepin I. If anyone ever has any problems with the royal family, I am very knowledgeable about it. I am 21 and go to Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego, California.
